LUWAK COFFEE TOUROn our drive to the rice fields we stop the coffee plantations to sample some local coffee blends. These included the world prized Luwak coffee, when i heard coffee i was in heaven untill i found out it coffee that has been pooped out of a cat! Yes i know sounds disgusting but surprisingly its not as bad as it sounds. Firstly The civet cat eats the coffee cherries, the cherries go through the digestive track and fermentation occurs, and then they pass through the intestines and eventually pooped out. The coffee cherries are then collected up, cleaned, lightly roasted and brewed, these beans yield an aromatic coffee with much less bitterness, widely noted as the most expensive coffee in the world. After our garden walk, we were seated under gazebo and our guide offered us a free tea & coffee tasting. We had so much fun tasting the different flavours example , and learning about the medicinal benefits the teas have. After hearing all that we had to give Poop coffee a try, sample's of the (poop) coffee as the kids call it cost us around $5 a cup and it wasn't that bad we found it to be smooth and not as strong or bitter. Entry is Free includes guide tour of the process and Tea and coffee samples if your interested in tasting the Luwak Coffee sample cup cost $5 and you can purchase some at the store.
