Moja Moja Life: Misaki Kawai for Kids
NGV Triennial 2020 has something for everyone including young people!
Moja Moja Life: Misaki Kawai for Kids is an indoor playground featuring a display of colourful, furry sculptures of dogs and a puppet studio. With a love of mimetic word pairings spoken in the Japanese language, such as moja moja which means ‘hairy’, and an interest in children’s creative play and making, Misaki shares her playful approach to creating art and her affinity for fluffy dogs with NGV’s young visitors.
Central to the exhibition is Kawai's larger-than-life, hot pink, faux fur sculpture of a dog named Arty, which is surrounded by a display of other dogs, each sporting colourful coats made from different fluffy materials.
Adjacent to the dispLay is a colourful fun space, where kids will see lots of different hairy dog sculptures. There is Arty, a huge dog covered in hot pink fur and Poofy wearing a bright green fluffy coat. Children can get active and step on lots of paw prints to trigger puppy sound effects and animations of Misaki’s doggy friends – Potato, Raisin, Snowy, Max and Bertie.
There is also a Piko Piko Station, where children can create a puppet show videos with Misaki’s puppets using a interactive monitor featuring six different stories. This new space allows kids to play with a puppet and create their own version of the tale and share with family and friends.

Rain Room Is back in Melbourne
RANDOM INTERNATIONAL's unmissable Rain Room returns. Brought to Australia as part of Jackalope Hotel's ambitious art collection, a record 90,000 visitors 'controlled the weather' during its sell-out 2019 season, making it Melbourne's most talked about - and Instagrammed - solo art exhibition of recent memory.
An international art sensation that has also taken London, New York, Shanghai and Los Angeles by storm, Rain Room is 100 square metre expanse of torrential rainfall that you control with your movement, allowing you to take centre stage in a mesmerising merging of art, technology, and nature.
The epitome of socially distant art, Rain Room is the perfect piece for the time. Small groups experience the work together and are encouraged to explore the space in solitude. The result, a remarkably cleansing and contemplative experience, as visitors are consumed by a soothing rainstorm, all the while being completely protected from its forces.
If you missed out last year, be sure to book tickets for Rain Room's second summer season.
