Escape the Old Melbourne Gaol

Do your kids have what it takes to Escape The Old Melbourne Gaol? Head there these school holidays for a limited edition experience.

Children are invited to participate in Escape the Gaol, an immersive and educational activity aimed at ages six and up.
Children will have the opportunity to become inmates and must explore the Gaol to discover clues, solve riddles and pull off a perfect Prison escape!, without being discovered by the prison guards.

Each ‘prisoner’ will be given a notebook containing a number of riddles, which must be deciphered in order to receive directions to hidden clues. Once the clues are discovered, prisoners must secretly hunt through the Gaol to uncover the answers to pull off a fool-proof escape plan.
included with entry families can also explore the old Watch House and Former Magistrates courts.
Watch House Experience
Experience what it was like to be arrested and locked up in a building that has changed little since it closed in 1994. Duration: 30 minutes
Former Magistrates Court
Explore the former Magistrates’ Court, where many infamous trials took place. Try on a costume and put yourself in history.

We headed down to see for ourselves at Victoria’s first ever Hot springs Only an hours drive south of Melbourne at Rye.

Peninsula Hot Springs is Victoria’s first natural thermal mineral springs. The Bath House is Peninsula Hot Springs’ social, family-friendly bathing area. Where we Experienced over 20 globally-inspired bathing experiences including a cave pool, reflexology walk, Turkish steam bath (Hamam), underground sauna, cold plunge pools and hilltop pool, offering stunning 360 degree views of the region.

Entering the bathing area is like stepping into another world, a relaxing sanctuary like a holiday in Bali (first thing the kids said) very calmed place surrounded by nature and the sound of running water.

The 50°C naturally hot mineral spring water flows from an underground aquifer 637 metres below the surface. The water runs untouched direct from the source to the pools, which range between 37°C and 43°C. Peninsula Hot Springs thermal mineral water contains a range of naturally occurring minerals including sulphur, calcium, magnesium, potassium and many others and is classified as a “Sodium Chloride Bicarbonate Spring”

Getting to Docklands
  • The ferry berths at Docklands along Victoria Harbour Promenade. Just opposite Merchant Street off Bourke St.
  • Trams: Take the 35, 70 or 75 tram to Stop D3 Etihad Stadium/Bourke Street Docklands or trams 11 and 48 to stop D18, Victoria Harbour Docklands. Allow a few minutes walk from either of these stops to the ferry terminal.
  • If you are waking from Harbour Esplanade, we are approx. 250 metres walk from across the road from Etihad Stadium.
  • Train: Get to Southern Cross station and take the Northern exit. Walk towards Etihad Stadium and take the stairs down to the left to reach Docklands area. Continue walking along Victoria Harbour Promenade. You will need to allow at least 10 minutes to walk from Southern Cross.

Getting to Portarlington Pier
  • The Portarlington Pier is located quite centrally in Portarlington, just a short 3 minute walk from the main street, Newcombe Street.
  • Turn off Newcombe Street onto Harding Street in the direction of the water. You will easily view the pier
  • You will need to allow a few minutes to walk down the very end of the pier to reach the ferry terminal
  • Parking: There is plenty of FREE parking close to the pier
  • You may like to grab a coffee at one of the local cafes before heading off for your journey

Pony rides in St Kilda

Open Every Sunday in St Kilda , why not take the kids down to Catani Gardens for a pony ride.   Rides cost $10 each or purchase a 10 ride card for $80.

Parents are encouraged to lead their children around the designated track to enjoy the experience with them, for those who are not confident they also offer an experienced leader.
