Star wars is coming to fed square

Fans around the world have claimed May the 4th as their day to honour the galaxy far, far away – and here’s how you can get involved in the celebrations here in Melbourne !

Buddha's Day & Multicultural Festival

Buddha’s Day and Multicultural Festival, is back at Federation Square.

The annual event is a celebration commemorating Buddha’s Birthday and Melbourne’s colourful multicultural and multi-faith society.

The free event is run as a not-for-profit festival helping promote inclusiveness,cultural awareness, cultural understanding; and enhances community spirit and social harmony.

The event showcases traditional Buddhist ceremonies such as Bathing the Buddha, Tea Meditation, Twilight Light Offering Ceremony as well as multicultural music and dance performances, social and spiritual well-being lectures, world peace prayers, tai chi classes, interfaith ceremony, children’s activities, animal farm and more.

Visitors can also experience an array of mindfulness classes including gentle tai chi, the ancient practice of Sutra calligraphy (pictured below) and contribute Bodhi tree art installation .

Our kids loved getting involved and  helping contribute to a giant sized Sutra for world peace and harmony spread across a 10m long parchment.

Federation Square transforms into
​Shepp Square

For two weeks Federation Square will be transforms into Shepp Square, A  festival of food, family activities and free events highlighting the best of the best of Greater Shepparton right here in the heart of the city.

Taking place from 9-21 April, each day will be themed to showcase the regions dynamic food scene, agricultural offerings, indigenous culture, arts institutions, and family friendly events.

Greater Shepparton is Australia’s Foodbowl and produces 25 per cent of Victoria’s fresh produce. Exploring just how much fun food can be, visitors to Shepp Square can milk a ‘not so real’ cow, dig for veggies, or get involved in a baked beans eating competition!

Families can treat the kids to free and low cost fun with a range of activities on offer including everything from bobbing for apples, Indigenous dancing and African hair braiding.

Visitors are also encouraged to keep an eye out for the famous Shepparton Moooving Art Cows and real live fruit characters including a tomato juggling street walker, Adam the Apple and Polly the Pear.

WORLD FIRST ALICE IN WONDERLAND EXHIBITION opens in MELBOURNE

Today we followed Alice down the rabbit hole at ACMI's wonderland, a world premiere exhibition that celebrates the timeless stories of Lewis Carroll and Alice's adventures on screen.

With interactive maps in hand we took a trip through the looking glass into an immersive, enchanted world that draws together a remarkable selection of original behind-the-scenes material.

The exhibition Celebrates the screen history of Lewis Carroll's timeless stories — Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There — in an entirely world first original experiential exhibition.

Starting at Lewis Carroll's drawing room, we were handed each our own interactive "Lost Map of Wonderland", a physical and digital device unlocking hidden suprises and experiences during our self guided tour of the exhibition and journey through different twists and turns through Wonderland.

We quickly lost ourselves in the Hallway of Doors, played at the Queen's Croquet Ground and took part in a magical Mad Hatter's Tea Party that came to life before our very eyes.

Along the way we saw more than 300 unique objects sourced from all around the world.

Using our interactive maps we were able to create our own avatars and scan our faces onto the projector screen and become the queens cardmen and help paint the roses red to keep Red Queen happy.

Attention all Marvel fans for one day only The Marvel Universe will unite at
Federation Square and the ACMI, to celebrate the 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the lead up to Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War. Bringing together the Marvel world, characters and stories we all know and love here in Melbourne.

Come along from 12pm to 5pm and join in on this FREE event which will feature a Marvel Training Zone, where attendees can take on the Marvel Avengers Training Course, work as a team to solve the Avengers Puzzle Challenge, take their best shot in the Hawkeye Target Practice, battle it out at the Marvel Nerf Zone and pose like a hero with Thor’s hammer and Captain America’s shield.

This will make the  perfect day out for families and Marvel fans of all ages, an opportunity to cast your eyes on never before seen product for Avengers: Infinity War, available to purchase at the Marvel pop-up shop and join in on the fun at the main stage with interactive games, live entertainment, prize giveaways and more.

Activities will include,  chance to create your own comics, test out the latest tech products, pose with the Infinity Gauntlet and experience Black Panther in augmented reality. Even get to see your favorite Avenger characters performing shows and opportunities to pose for a photo with Spider-Man, Thor, Black Widow, Iron Man and Captain America.
