Explore over 3,000 cacti and succulents here in Melbourne! The beautiful Arid Garden at Melbourne Gardens is ready for you to explore the weird and wonderful world of cacti and succulents! Only a short walk from the children’s garden, the Arid Gardens has been over a century in the making with the help of generous donors, the revamped Arid Garden was designed by renowned Landscape Architect Andrew Laidlaw, and is based on the internal cellular structure of a succulent. The collection features more than 3000 arid plants including 400 different species, with many sourced from world-renowned international collections including the Fields collection, created by Ralph and Robert Fields in Tennyson, north-central Victoria. I highly recommend you stop by the Arid Garden on your next visit to Melbourne Gardens, where you can admire these gorgeous plants and be immersed in the history of the site.
