Over 450 artefacts come together to form the largest collection of its kind displayed in Melbourne. Among the rare treasures on show are the astoundingly beautiful skeletal remains of a Viking longship, one of the finest Thor’s-hammer pendants ever found, and Viking swords dating from 700 AD to 1100 AD. Explore thESE school holidaysHow did the Vikings really live? What did they make, eat and trade? How did they fight and play? Why not come and be a Viking yourself. Join Melbourne’s own recreation groups the New Varangian Guard, Joms Vikings and Wessex, who will be living at Melbourne Museum for the second week of the school holidays. Explore the different styles of Viking art and make a piece of wearable art to show off at home or immerse yourself in Viking life at the Vikings encampment activity. They’ll bring to life diverse aspects of the Vikings. You’ll see Vikings costumes, tents, furs, pottery, cooking, games, blacksmithing, textiles, spinning, knitting, weaving and much more.
